Territories

Approximately 200 hectares of permanent grassland are used in the Thoroughbred industry, mainly located in the South East of the country, in the region of Oslo.

Employment

There are 10 farm owners in Norway, with a total of 10-15 employees. Most of the farmers have to work themselves. Indirect jobs generated by the breeding industry are estimated around 20-30.

Global employment in the Norwegian Racing industry includes some 10 people in the administration, the same number of seasonal employees in the racetrack, 25 trainers, 30 stable workers and 20 jockeys. In addition, there are an incalculable number of veterinarians, blacksmiths, food suppliers and associated trades.

Sales

One Yearlings sale is organized in Norway. It takes place during the fall together with trotters. In 2014, there were 14 entries with 5 yearlings sold. In 2015, 13 yearlings have been entered for next sale out of the 30 born the same year.

Racing

Øvrevoll Galoppbane is the only gallop racecourse in Norway, located near Oslo. It was opened in 1932 and hosts 34 race days a year, what corresponds approximately to 270 races. 

Betting

Total annual betting activity is valued at €455 million. There is only pari-mutuel.
