Horseracing reappeared in Cyprus from the end of the 19^th century, although the tradition of this sport in the country goes back to ancient times and the Hellenistic period.  The Nicosia Race Club, the only organization in Cyprus to organize horse races, holds events twice a week all year round. This represents around 500 races per year with a thousand of starters running flat races.
