Territories

A thousand hectares of permanent grassland in Czech Republic are used for keeping thoroughbreds, mostly in the areas of Moravia and East Bohemia.

Employment

The breeding sector directly employs 150 persons and generates around 200 indirect jobs.

Sales

Regular auctions took place in the country before the fall on the iron curtain, but they ceased to take place in the 1990s when the economy was struggling. In 2008, further attempts were made to hold Thoroughbred bloodstock auctions in the Czech Republic and boost the sales of Czech-bred yearlings. In 2014, 20 horses were sold in the Central European Bloodstock Sale for a global revenue of €50,000.

Racing

11 racetracks in the country host 65 race days in both flat and jumping.

Betting

Bookmakers in Czech Republic generate €1.2 million betting revenue. Most of this revenue comes from on-course betting.
