"Breaking News re ARVAC" Ireland's Department of Agriculture Approves Importation of ARVAC Vaccine
EFTBA Press Release re ARVAC 21.10.24
EVA is a notifiable disease that can cause pregnancy loss and infertility. EFTBA has been concerned that the absence of an EVA vaccine for stallions following the manufacturing failure of Artervac has left the elite stallions of Europe vulnerable to an EVA incursion.
EFTBA itself and its members including Ireland, France and Germany lobbied the EU for permission to import the alternative vaccine, Arvac, from the USA, throughout 2023. These efforts were not successful.
These efforts continued in 2024 and today’s advice from Irelands DAFM that it has obtained permission to import the Arvac vaccine for the 2025 breeding season is a very significant milestone and sets a precedent for other EFTBA countries including the UK.
The terms and conditions to follow. EFTBA Chairman Joe Hernon said “this is a clear illustration of the importance of EFTBA and its ability to lobby at EU and national levels, on behalf of our industry”.
